WINTER FILM CAMP

Winter Film Camp is an intensive educational film camp, running over 7 days and 6 nights, dedicated to teenagers aged between 14 and 18, who are just starting out, passionate about cinema, visual stories and the creative process behind a film. The camp takes place from 24 – 31 Octombrie 2026,  într-un cadru natural care încurajează concentrarea, lucrul în echipă și explorarea creativă.

The program is designed and led by Horațiu Curuțiu, director, producer and cinematographer at Numa Film, together with a professional team of directors, producers, camera and sound technicians, actors and production assistants. The emphasis falls on learning by doing, with every participant actively involved in all the stages of making a film.

This film camp is aimed at teenagers between 14 and 18 years old who are passionate about stories, images and creativity. Between 7 and 12 February, through workshops and hands-on exercises, participants will discover how a film is made: from idea and character all the way to shooting and editing. Filling in this form counts as a registration of interest; places are limited, and the parents of the children will be contacted afterwards with all the details about the program, costs and conditions of participation.

The activities are structured as workshops, hands-on exercises, real shoots and analysis sessions, adapted to the age and experience level of the participants.

Camp structure and experience

Over the seven days, participants will:

• discover what cinematic film is, why we tell stories through images and how film language works;

• learn how a film idea is developed, how characters are built and how a screenplay is turned into a concrete production plan;

• explore the roles within a film crew (director, cinematographer, camera assistant, sound recordist, gaffers, production);

• work directly with professional actors, understanding the relationship between director, actor and camera;

• take part in real shoots, in interior and exterior locations, by day and by night;

• learn the basics of cinematography, sound, mise-en-scene, set design and costume;

• step into the editing and post-production process, understanding how the rhythm and the meaning of a film are built;

• take part daily in feature film screenings and Q&A sessions, developing their critical thinking and their capacity for analysis.

A key element of the camp is role rotation: each participant will get the chance to try out several positions in the film crew, in order to concretely understand the responsibilities and the dynamics of a film production.

Skills and abilities gained

By taking part in Winter Film Camp, teenagers will develop both technical skillsand abilities that are essential in the creative field:

Filmmaking and creative skills:

• understanding the complete process of making a film;

• basic notions of screenwriting, directing and visual storytelling;

• an introduction to the use of filming equipment (camera, sound, lighting);

• notions of composition, framing, camera movement and lighting;

• the basics of editing and audio-video post-production;

• the ability to analyze a film from an artistic and a technical perspective.

Other abilities gained:

• working in a team and taking on responsibility;

• effective communication and collaboration in a creative context;

• critical thinking and problem-solving ability;

• adaptability and handling unforeseen situations;

• self-confidence and creative expression;

• discipline, organization and keeping to a production schedule.

Transport, accommodation and meals are fully covered by the organizers. Participants receive 3 meals a day, drinks for the whole duration of the camp and recreational activities, such as local hikes, built into the program. All the filming equipment and teaching materials are provided by Numa Film, so that participants can focus entirely on the creative experience.

WINTER FILM CAMP PROGRAM

ZIUA 1 - CE ESTE FILMUL?

On the first day we arrive at the accommodation, which is also the base location of Winter Film Camp. Once we have checked in, we have lunch, after which we get the chance to know each other better. After lunch there is a session for organizing the camp and games for getting to know the participants. This day is dedicated to the theme: What is film? Throughout the day, participants learn what cinematic film is, why we make films and also why we watch them. In parallel, we hold theory and practice sessions on what film production means, and we also discuss the stages of film production, the roles on set and post-production. After dinner, the evening closes with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

ZIUA 2 - DEZVOLTARE ȘI PRE-PRODUCȚIE I

We start the second day with a few warm-up exercises and breakfast. The day continues with the development workshop. Participants get familiar with what developing a film means. How a film travels from an idea to a product we watch in the cinema. We have the lunch break, after which we go into the technical detail of turning a screenplay into a film. We meet the two actors we work with during this camp and discuss the screenplay we are going to shoot together over the following days. The discussions are hands-on, so that all participants are part of the process. On this day we also discuss the filming equipment, equipment that all participants get to work with in rotation, provided by Numa Film. We go a little into the detail of how a film crew is organized. After dinner, the evening closes with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

ZIUA 3 - DEZVOLTARE ȘI PRE-PRODUCȚIE II 

Straight after the morning warm-up and breakfast, we head out on a location scout, to decide together on the filming locations for the screenplay we are going to shoot. We get back in time for lunch, after which we discuss the shot breakdown and how it can shape the way the audience perceives the film. We focus on cinematography and sound capture in film production, but we also discuss subjects such as mise-en-scene, set design, costume and make-up. Once the breakdown is finished we have dinner, and we close the day as usual with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

ZIUA 4 - PRODUCȚIE DE FILM I

The fourth day is a particularly interesting one. From early morning the technical crew takes care of preparing the production, so after the warm-up and breakfast we head to the first location on set to shoot scene 1. We shoot until lunch, then get ready to shoot scenes 2 and 3 until dinner is served. After dinner, the evening closes with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

ZIUA 5 - PRODUCȚIE DE FILM II 

The fifth day, although similar to day 4, is a day full of challenges. After the warm-up and breakfast, we prepare scene 4 for shooting. We shoot until lunch, then get ready to shoot scenes 5 and 6 until dinner is served. After dinner, the evening closes with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

Over these 2 production days, all participants together with the camp trainers rotate through different production roles, namely: director, cinematographer, camera assistants, gaffers and so on. This way, each participant gets the chance to experience all the roles at different stages of production. 

ZIUA 6 - MONTAJ ȘI POST-PRODUCȚIE 

Day 6 is dedicated to editing. Straight after breakfast we move into this stage and, together with the participants, we edit the first sequences of our film. We edit until lunch, then continue with a second editing session. At the end of the day we move into the post-production stage, where we work on the image and the sound ready for viewing, after which we have dinner. After dinner, the evening closes with a feature film screening and Q&A sessions (questions and answers).

The last day, we think, is the hardest one for all participants. We get up early for the warm-up and breakfast, after which we pack our bags for the journey home. We hold the camp closing ceremony, after which we have lunch and then travel back to Cluj-Napoca.
